These English Resources include teachers' notes and language exercises. Due regard is given to whole class work, group work and independent work designed to develop skills in speaking and listening reading and writing.

In the story upon which these English Resources are based, Plop, a baby Barn Owl is afraid of the dark, so his mother sends him down into the world to find out about the dark.

He meets a little boy collecting sticks for bonfire night, an old lady, boy scouts camping, a little girl who tells him about Father Christmas, another little girl sketching night creatures, an astronomer, and a cat.

Children identify with the baby barn owl and learn a lot about different aspects of the dark.

These resources provide tasks for a morning session in which language teaching predominates. The English activities cover approximately eight weeks, i.e. a typical term in a primary school.

The content of the chosen text, The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, is best suited for the autumn term.
