New Developments

Artwork

In 1986/87, Margaret Jones, illustrator of our recent publication, The Tale of Twm Siôn Cati, was commissioned by the Aberystwyth Arts Centre in conjunction with Cambrian News to produce paintings evocative of the twelve months of the year. These magnificent watercolour paintings show subjects associated with each month inspired by Welsh myths and legends. The paintings are further annotated with the flowers, creatures and colours of each particular month.

The Arts Centre and Cambrian News then incorporated these paintings into a 1988 Calendar that quickly became a collector's item. Subsequently, the paintings were taken on a tour of Wales for viewing by a wide audience. The artist regarded these paintings as being part of her best work.

APECS Press Caerleon has recently purchased the paintings with a view to producing in the first instance, limited edition copies and quality cards. (To view these paintings please follow this link.) Our intention is to display the paintings in a range of venues in Wales including art galleries, museums and theatres. Persons interested in purchasing copies of the paintings or cards should make contact with Dr Alun Isaac of APECS.

Booksigning

Margaret Isaac has met her public at many places in Wales including the Norwegian Church and St Fagans Museum, Cardiff, the Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, the Public Library, Newport, and the Red Kite Centre and Rhiannon's Gold Centre, Tregaron. Margaret also meets with the large numbers of visitors to the National and Urdd Eisteddfods, arts festivals and music events.

APECS plans to organise more booksigning events when Margaret will be present to talk to visitors about her books and story writing in general.

School Visits Programme

Since 1999, Margaret has made more than 250 visits to primary and secondary schools in Wales. She has read from her books to children aged 5 - 12 years, and discussed creative writing with 17 - 18 year olds.

Based on her experience as a teacher, teacher-training lecturer and schools inspector, she has provided teachers with writing frameworks that complement her books. In partnership with teachers, writing workshops have then followed the book readings and successfully produced imaginative and well-written children's stories.

Many children have benefited from this exposure to literature based on Welsh legend that links Welsh history, location and culture.

In 2007/08, Margaret's visits programme is being extended to schools throughout Wales, literary societies and other interested groups. Information leaflets in English and Welsh are being circulated via local education authorities to over 800 schools and enquiries are welcomed from schools wishing for Margaret to meet their children.
