Would you like a writer to come to your school or organisation and read from her work and/or organise a writing workshop?

Margaret Isaac contributes to the Writers on Tour Scheme
of Yr Academi Gymreig (The Welsh Academy). Based in Cardiff, the Academi has responsibility for the promotion of Welsh writers and their writing. Funding from the Welsh Assembly Government via the Arts Council enables the Academi to provide financial subsidies for visits by writers.

Between 1999 - 2007, Margaret has visited over 150 primary and secondary schools, and other literary organisations as a Writer on Tour. From 2002 - 2004, she acted as a Writer in Residence at schools in the State and Independent sectors in the Vale of Glamorgan, Newport, Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taff.

In 2003 and 2004, she was involved in a Forestry Commission project, the Forestry Education Initiative, that took children out of the classroom and into a forest school environment as shown in the photograph below.

In May 2008 during the Hay Book Festival Week, Margaret will be contributing to a new children's event at the Brecon Beacons National Park Mountain Centre.

Margaret's books always feature well as part of activities organised for schools' Welsh Week, Saint David's Day and World Book Day.

Margaret was born in the Rhymney Valley of South Wales and educated at Cardiff University. The National Trust published her first collection of short stories, Tales of Gold, in English and Welsh in 1991 following the three year Dolaucothi Education Project that involved Gwent College of Higher Education, Cardiff University and the National Trust. After her move from Gwent College into the school inspection framework in 1996, she continued her research into the legends of Wales and commenced full-time writing in 1998. Since 1999, Margaret has published five books of children's fiction, four resource books for primary school teachers and is currently working on a new series of books due to be published between 2007 to 2009.

Margaret's writing is inspired by Celtic and Welsh legend. As a writer born in Wales and writing about things Welsh, her work supports the Curriculum Cymreig.

In the double-sided 'meet the author' leaflet produced by the Welsh Books Council in 2004, Margaret answers the questions often asked by children in the classes she visits. She also reveals some of her personal feelings about her writing. Click here or on the images to the right to view this leaflet.
